无线技术为植入设备提供新的供电方法

尽管植入设备拥有数十亿美元的市场,这些设备仍然有不足之处。使用植入设备的患者经常要面临许多与电源有关的危险问题,例如:电池寿命有限、经皮连接导致感染以及设备引起不适等。为了消除这些缺点,Telemetry Research公司(新西兰奥克兰; www.telemetryresearch.com)开发出利用电感耦合电力传输为植入设备供电的新技术。

Telemetry Research公司的工程主管展示了这种能够提供10W持续电力的无线能量传输设备。

无线技术为设备供电的基础是磁场而非电池或透过皮肤直接连接。经皮能量传输(Transcutaneous energy transfer; TET)需要一个外置部件和一个内置部件。外置部件通过初级线圈产生磁场。磁场无衰减地穿过皮肤,并且被内置部件接收。随后,内置部件将磁场转化为直流电,从而达到供电目的。据公司介绍,通过皮肤能够有效传输高达10W的电力。

工程主管David Budgett说道:“这种技术的主要差别在于能够连续供电。电池寿命有限,电量耗尽后,传统方法是通过手术更换电池。但无线技术可终生使用。”

他补充道:“心脏起搏器的电池能维持5至7年。对于预期生存期低于电池寿命的患者,这已经足够了。但对于预期生存期远远高于电池寿命的年轻患者,这种方法可以免去反复手术更换电池的烦恼。”

该技术不仅消除了电池寿命的限制,而且也提供了替代透过皮肤直接连接的供电方法。Budgett解释说,许多大功率设备,如机械泵或电子泵,通常由穿过皮肤的导线将植入设备与电源连接进行供电。但是,皮肤破损可能会引发感染,甚至危及生命。由于电感耦合电力传输是一种无线技术,所以能够避免上述危险。

同时,Telemetry Research公司还通过内置和外置部件间的松弛耦合进行能量传输,努力减轻患者的不适。Budgett在谈到其他公司的类似电感耦合电力传输设备时说:“如果外置和内置线圈十分接近,患者可能得承受皮肤磨损所带来的不适问题。我们的目标是建立松弛耦合。只要线圈适度接近(例如3cm),设备就能有效运转,同时避免线圈互相碰撞。减轻不适和避免设备过热是成功的关键。”

Telemetry Research公司正努力开发左心室辅助装置(LVAD)市场。无线技术在确保LVAD高效运转的同时,能够避免设备局部过热。植入设备过热极为危险。
